Google Stadia price and availability details revealed
First announced in March at the 2019 Game Developers Conference, Google Stadia is Google’s upcoming service that will stream high-end console and PC games from cloud servers. It will work on big-screen TVs via Google’s Chromecast Ultra dongle, and via your Chrome browser on desktops, laptops, Pixel 3 smartphones, and tablets. Games will be supported with up to 4K resolution and up to 60fps.
However, this service won’t be free to use — at least not initially. You will have to pay something to check out the service for yourself. Here’s what you need to know Google Stadia’s price, release date, and availability.
Google Stadia price: What will it cost?
Google Stadia will have two pricing models. One is called Stadia Pro, which costs $9.99 a month in the U.S. and will offer access to a bundle of older PC and console games all at once in a Netflix-style business model. It will support up to 4K resolution and 60fps for games. However, newer games will be priced individually on Stadia. The price for this service will be $11.99 in Canada. It’s not clear how much each of the individual games not included with Stadia Pro will cost.
Google will also sell a “Founder’s Edition” version of Stadia, which will include three months of Stadia Pro service, a Chromecast Ultra, and a limited edition Night Blue Google Stadia game controller. It will also include access to Bungie’s first-person shooter sequel, Destiny 2, via Stadia and a buddy pass code for three months of Stadia Pro to give to a friend. Finally, purchasing the Founder’s Edition will give you a way to pick your Stadia name before regular users. It will be priced at $129 in the U.S. and $169 in Canada.
Google has also announced it will launch free access to Stadia sometime in 2020. However, no games will be included in this free tier, and when you do purchase and stream games on Stadia for free, they will be limited to 1080p resolution.
Google Stadia launch date: When will it be available?
Google Stadia will launch in November 2019. A specific day in that month for the launch has not yet been revealed. It’s possible different markets will see different launch days for Stadia.
Google Stadia availability: What countries can access it?
Google has announced that Stadia will be available in countries. They include the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Belgium, France, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, and Denmark.
